Community Development

The Community Development Department is responsible for planning and zoning; enforcement and permitting of building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical activities, flood prevention ordinances and permits; issuing structure and official addresses; enforcing unsafe building, premises, and abandoned vehicles ordinances; coordinating local historic district certificates of appropriateness, Downtown Development Authority, Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund, and applying for and executing loans and grants, and numerous other special projects.

One of the most well attended, premiere events of our Annual Watermelon Festival is the Billy Williams Memorial Kiwanis Club Fishing Rodeo! 

 Sponsored each year by the Cordele Kiwanis Club. and the Watermelon Days Festival - Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commercethe fishing rodeo is fun for all ages with trophies and prizes awarded.  Don't miss all the fun and excitement as we kick off the 76th Annual Watermelon Festival, May 31st!
