South Georgia Burn Ban Restrictions Eased

Post Date:05/06/2026

Ga Burn Ban 17 Counties May 6, 2026Governor Brian Kemp has issued an executive order easing outdoor burning restrictions in parts of South Georgia.  While this is a step in the right direction, burning is still restricted in 17 South Georgia counties. Counties still under the burn ban includer, Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Berrien, Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Echols, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Ware, and Wayne. Residents in areas not under the burn ban should remain aware of local ordinances. Any questions about local conditions and burn permits should be directed to the county’s Georgia Forestry Commission office or fire marshal.

Here is what you need to know:

  • Some counties, including Crisp County are now allowed to resume limited outdoor burning
  • Others remain under restrictions due to ongoing drought conditions and fire concerns
  • Conditions can change quickly - always check before you burn

Even where restrictions have been eased, extreme caution is critical and must be exercised. Dry conditions remain across much of the state, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.
